challenge and restore including Vinyasa; Iyengar; Astanga; Relaxation;
Remedial and Partner Yoga.
She
approaches her practice and her teaching with a lightheartedness
that is accessible to all levels of practice and understanding
adding "I'm inspired when teaching the simplicity of the
postures, the breathing and the therapeutic practices to discover
the healing and transformational benefits for all, each day yoga
unlocks the body and frees the spirit. I see yoga as a transformational
path that is ever evolving and developing. I learn from all methods
and practices of yoga seeing no one way as the right way, instead
I see yoga as a practical philosophy and therapy changing from
day to day according to ones physical; psychological and spiritual
needs at the time.”
Her Yoga Journey: Jessie grew up inland from Byron Bay
amongst nature and an alternative environment. She was first introduced
to relaxation yoga as a teenager when she would practice Yoga
Nidra with her mother and attend Satyanada yoga classes.
Later,
in 1991, after returning from travels overseas where she had been
practicing Tai Chi for 6months, she re-discovered yoga at her
local community hall near Byron Bay. Once she felt the instantaneous
benefits of yoga for her mind and body she was hooked.
Over
the following years she continued to attend classes and workshops
of varying yoga styles and in particular the Iyengar yoga method.
In 1995 she went on to study massage and natural therapy and worked
as a deep tissue massage therapist. In 1996 she was drawn more
deeply into the yoga practices after a push bike accident which
caused a neck injury and she chose to leave university to devote
more time to her yoga practice which at that time was the thing
that bought her the most peace and happiness in her life. Her
teacher asked her to begin assisting him in class and she also
began teaching yoga voluntarily at the local Rehabilitation Centre
once a week.
It
was around this time she also discovered Astanga yoga with Louisa
Sear. At this time she realized becoming a qualified yoga teacher
was the next step and a natural progression in her life and in
1997 she completed the Yoga Arts 9month Yoga Teacher Training
Course in Byron Bay and has since studied with many great
teachers which have all contributed to her own style of yoga teaching
and understanding of yoga today.
